Camp Mommy 2009 - FREE Summer Movies!

Regal Theatre's terrific summer program is back:

REG’s Free Family Film Festival is Now Showing!

When school’s out, kids around the country visit selected Regal Theatres for the Free Family Film Festival. It’s a fun-filled nine weeks of movies for kids and parents. Since 1991, Regal has provided this service to the community, and best of all it’s FREE!

Selected G & PG movies start at 10AM each Tuesday and Wednesday during the festival. First-come, first-served seating is limited to theatre capacity. The Free Family Film Festival is safe, lots of fun and a great way for kids to spend a weekday morning in the summer.

Rebel Twitter for the non-tweets

Our current Twitter following on RebelHousewife.com (follow rebelupdate) is at 6 (SIX!) and steadily increasing -- I am really excited about that! For the other 3,546 dedicated Rebels out there who are not on Twitter.com or who can't/don't want to follow rebelupdate on Twitter, here's today's update, in 140-character Twitter snippets:

1) Home again & finally to work after getting everybody up&out to various destinations. Fixed son's bike chain - so dirty, so proud of myself!

2) Update on Obama book*: Last section in Africa best part, ended up loving the book-Book Group did, too. Going to read THE AUDACITY OF HOPE next.

*NOTE: 4 days ago - Midtown ATL Book Group Weds night @ B&N: DREAMS FROM MY FATHER by Barack Obama. I am 1/2way thru. Like it, drags a bit, fascinated by Obama.

3) (Last tweet 2day - TGIF!)[I lied] CAMP MOMMY: Free Summer Movies@Regal Theatres: www.regmovies.com

4) I am really excited about this! Oprah's Books of Summer:

Sandwich Generation Re-Visited

(** Have to post about that Grammy note later today...)

The Rebel Grammy (my mom) sprung herself from the very nice retirement community we had moved her to (and hoped she would stay) after 90 days of heart attack, two strokes, Emergency Rooms, long hospital stays, active rehab in a nursing facility and everything else. She moved herself back to her old apartment, a very diverse all ages community with no support and no services. (We told her if she wanted to go back, she'd have to arrange to do it herself and, by God, she did it!)(No small amount of stubborn in my female lineage, which is something to behold, I have to admit.)(Yes, we hid the car and are keeping the keys, pending medical authorization, but that's a whole 'nother story.)

She's still using a walker, she can't drive, can barely see straight and she doesn't remember what she did or said five minutes ago - and she's on the blood thinner Coumadin for at least six months, which is a terribly high risk for bleeding to death from a fall or accident.

I feel like I'm on the dark side of the Sandwich Generation at the moment, doing what I can, but there is only so much the adult child can do in this situation. She called me this morning at 10am to tell me she was 'home,' how WONDERFUL it was - and could I come pick her up to go grocery shopping? So I did...

Dear Hubby and I were at 12yo Drama Queen's end-of-season tennis party this weekend. It was an interesting conversation amongst the forty-somethings, after lauding the girls for a terrific season (City Finalists!!), while they ate cake and played more tennis...nearly every parent at that party had an aging parent/Sandwich Generation challenge they are currently working on - an impromptu Support Group.

Know that you are not alone in your struggles, fellow Middle-Aged Rebels!

Camp Mommy 2009 - 2nd Monday

With a 'found' 15 minutes and my 2nd cup of coffee, I was trying to decide between writing or reading a chapter of my book for Book Group Wednesday night.
(Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance by Barack Obama.
I'm on page 207 of 441 - ack!).

It's finally summer, I even have two kids in camp this week, and I still can't seem to catch up!

Five* Things To Do Today:

(* Let's try & keep it realistic!)
  1. 12yo Drama Queen & 9yo ADHD Phenom to camp (different summer day camps across the street at Piedmont Park) - DONE!!
  2. LAUNDRY - piles & piles, still working on it. 4pm update: still working on it!
  3. Elementary School Registration w/all required forms, documentation, paperwork, proof of residence, license, title, etc. - notarized, of course.
(Yes, this is all for PUBLIC school!) - 4pm update: DONE!
  4. Help Grammy** 4pm update: DONE!
  5. Rebel Twitter or Blog - DONE!!
11am and 2 out of 5 complete - that's pretty good!! ;-)
Except that it's now AFTER 11am and I am late.
