#5 - Fortysomething & The Big Realization
And now, with my husband's 40th Birthday, we've crossed a threshold in our lives. I've been feeling it, although I won't break that age barrier until 2007. We are, undeniably, getting o-l-d. Not yet Over The Hill...but certainly coming up on it! And it's not terrible. We look forward to greater stability, more freedom as our children grow older, and decades of continuing adventures together. It's just...my god, we're old people, in the eyes of our children and the twentysomethings out there just beginning life, where we were twenty years ago. It is an extraordinary thing to contemplate. The Big Realization: Life is Good. It is not the fairy tale, happily ever after we've been led to believe. It is heartache and happiness, ups and downs. I wouldn't trade my life. The one thing I've learned: It truly is the journey, not the destination that counts. You'll forgive me if that's such a tired cliche, yet so true.
This forty thing is a huge adjustment -- give me some time with this!! ;-)
