Mid-Life Crisis: Embracing Personal Challenges

The whole thing with Tiger and ADHD issues brought me back to my Mid-Life Crisis, or Mid-Life Transformation, as our friend Casey (www.personaltao.com) pointed out in Comments on Mid-Life Crisis, Continued.

Everytime I want to fall into depression and self-pity over the challenges in my life, I am reminded -- sometimes I remember on my own, but sometimes my husband helps -- that we should actually appreciate our personal challenges and be glad to have the problems we do.

1) You never have to look too far to find someone who would trade problems with you in an instant.

2) We grow more from our challenges in life, and I do try to believe that every challenge presents new opportunities.

3) I guess it is true, that what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger.

But then that immediately makes me think about my friend who is losing the battle with Leukemia...and okay, how does that help when the challenge actually does kill?

I don't know. That's heavy. That's what is causing a lot of angst and turmoil for me right now, my Mid-Life thing, because I'm starting to question and re-examine a lot of the Myths and reassurances I've always believed. It is surprisingly hard to get old -- I say surprisingly, because I didn't expect it to bother me. I'm always looking forward to the adventure.

We'll talk more about that next week in Mid-Life Myths.

For today, I want to appreciate my challenges, and I encourage you, if you'd like to participate, to share your own or Comment, or ponder the issue on your blog or website and share the link, to join in the conversation.

Appreciating Challenges in My Life (without going into detail):
  1. Financial
  2. ADHD (Parenting)
  3. Weight/Health/Aging/Feeling Good
  4. Sibling Rivalry (Parenting)
  5. Focus/Accomplishing Anything
It seems like there should be more, and there are, but those are the Big Five at the moment. I know, I know -- I should be thankful, and I am.

:)

when you say:

Everytime I want to fall into depression and self-pity over the challenges in my life

Its hard very hard, as it twists you inside, very much so, the old and the new going in different directions.

hang tight and dance, as hard as it might seem, dance with yourself and life.

I will write more later :)
