CAMP MOMMY - MAMMA MIA!
Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 09:16AM
It seems like it has been a really, really long time since I returned home from the morning drop-offs (hubby to work, kids to camp or wherever) and had the house all to myself...well, myself and Mocha-the-dog. It's really nice...
The two boys were off to Camp Grammy yesterday, just for one night, and 11yo Drama Queen is "Counselor In Training" this week for our favorite summer camp progam at Piedmont Park in Atlanta. She is going to be a counselor next summer, and this is a transition for her: "Mom, it's work! I don't get to play tennis, I have to teach and watch the little kids! I'm SO TIRED!" Poor thing. ;-)
Last night, we took her out to dinner and a movie with a friend. We ended up seeing MAMMA MIA!, which is...how can I put it...definitely different than your run-of-the-mill summer blockbuster or animated feature -- certainly high-energy, infectious and fun. Hubby and I went to the theatre production at The Fox Theatre here in Atlanta years ago and LOVED IT. What's not to love, with a girl getting married on a remote Greek island, the mystery of three dads, an aging, hippie mother and her crazy friends, all set to the best ABBA songs? It's hard to make a big-screen movie out of a theatre production musical. They managed with GREASE (Greatest Musical Movie Ever), and even with CHICAGO, which was terrific. MAMMA MIA! is not quite up to those standards, but it is fun: very, very campy.
I'm sure the boys will be home sooner, rather than later. Grammy is 72 this year, and it is hard for her to keep up with two busy boys. I am doing laundry (still)(again), which has seemed to be an endless process since the Five-Day Family Road Trip. In between loads, I am working on the second Rebel Review this week, catching up with another fabulous beach read after FIREFLY LANE by Kristin Hannah.
It's another great day of CAMP MOMMY -- 11 more to go, and I won't even be here for 3 of those. It is all winding down very quickly now!
